Dieting with Wulong Tea Fact or Myth?
You may have heard about Wulong tea and weight loss. It’s been hyped by several celebrities including Oprah Winfrey. There’s a lot of fact and myth surrounding Wulong tea weight loss, and you should get your facts straight on this. Before we go any further, though, let’s clarify something. Though “Wulong” is an acceptable way to pronounce the name, it translates to “Black Dragon”, and the standard pronunciation for the western world is “Oolong”. Don’t get fooled by the slight name variation, and think it’s something special; it’s the exact same thing.
Some manufacturers might try to convince you that Oolong is extremely rare, maybe even saying that it is only produced in a single province. This is a gross exaggeration. It comes from several Chinese provinces including Fujian and Guandong. It’s also massively produced in Taiwan, where Dong Ding Oolong is grown in the Wu-Yi Mountains, and it is highly regarded world-wide.
While Oolong tends to be less common than Green and Black tea (all of which come from the same plant), it is in no way rare, and can be found at almost all tea shops. Moreover, they are definitely not selling you “Premium” tea. If you were drinking real, premium Oolong every night, you will find yourself with an empty wallet fast.
So, you might be feeling a bit uneasy about Oolong tea and weight loss. If these weight loss companies exaggerate so much, is any of it true? Well, fortunately, there are many health benefits as well as weight loss attributes if you eat right and exercise while drinking the tea. If you feel uneasy about what you’ve read from Wulong tea weight loss companies so far, you can do the research yourself. Oolong is truly is beneficial to your health and it does have weight loss properties. It is not, however, a magic bullet that will work if you don't work at it.
Don’t expect it to magically burn away pounds, though. The fact is, it does boost your metabolism, but only by about four percent. It is great to help you digest meals though, especially ones high in cholesterol. And it’s a great replacement for coffee or soft drinks, because it has no sugar, little caffeine, and is good for your body. It’s also a good way to get your daily recommended amount of water; in fact tea is said to be about 99% water.
Do you need high quality tea for the diet to work well? Of course not! People who drink expensive oolongs aren’t doing it for the health benefits; they’re doing it because they love tea, and they prefer the taste of higher quality teas. Whether it’s high quality, mountain peak Oolong, or it’s the stuff from the bottom of the barrel, it’s still tea, and the health benefits are still there. The thing to think about, actually, is making sure you drink the tea fresh-brewed – the health benefits lessen if you leave the tea to sit.
The thing to remember is that no weight loss plan works on pills or supplements alone. They key to losing weight is to watch what you eat and exercise. Drinking tea, Oolong or otherwise, is great way to HELP for you lose the weight if you take care of yourself totally. Keep drinking it, and you might find yourself really enjoying the tea, and then you can explore different types of Oolong as well as other teas.
